Kudat Area

Gombizau Bee Farm - Along the way to Kudat the first stop. We tried the honey and bought some as well. Entrance fee RM5.

Kg Sumangkap Gong Making - 2nd stop. The whole village is making "Gong" and we bought some cheap beads from one of the stall as well.
Entrance fee RM5.

Rungus Longhouse - Entrance fee RM2 supposedly but since nobody around,, we did not pay just straight away entered the long house. Lots of beads and manage to see exactly how they make the necklace. They did not wear the traditional attire since we did not specifically book for the home stay at the long house.

Beads Centre - Just another visit along the way since I think the beads is better at the longhouse and cheaper as well.

Tips of Borneo Simpang Mengayau - Only one word to describe it--> Beautiful !
Sadly no sunset for the day. Picnic around the area while waiting for the sunset actually. Yummy prawn.. and ikan paprik prepared by our host.. Zila..

Kudat Town Area - Nothing much..

Along the way back to Kota Kinabalu - Stop at Kota Marudu area to buy some peanuts. Make another stop to buy some corn. Scenic journey... with some paddy field along the road... manage to see the farmers using the buffalo to work at their paddy field.

Thanks a lot to dear friend Azila and her housemate for the hospitality.... the yummy crab... as well...

Mount Kinabalu via Mersilau Trail

Arrived from Sandakan about 10.30pm, we picked up the rental car and drove to Kinabalu Park HQ.
I'm the navigator & dabom is the driver for the day.
She asked me to drive but I could not manage the gear box since it was ages since I drove manual car.. Difficult to engage the first gear as well.. --> Alasan...

The journey starts with a few calls to Elni & Zila to confirm the route. Sorry dear friends’ coz the call was made in the middle of the night.
From KK town we use the route to Likas, in front of UMS then turn right to Menggatal junction (which is really a small junction road, it was really a small kampung road) before entering another two way road of the other side which we only need to drive straight to Tuaran before we need to turn left to Ranau road.

Arrived at the HQ Park about 1.30 am then slept in the car for the rest of the day before registering at the park office in the morning.

Registered at the Park Office at 7.30 am.

Transfer to Mersilau Trail starting point with a cab. It cost us initially RM85 before dabom negotiated the fee to RM70.
Our guide for the 2 days is Mr Venn John Latius.
He asked us either we wanted to use the porter and buy the walking stick? We answered "NO" which he kept reminding us later that we should have at least do it...in order to support the community --> not that he said exactly in those words but that's the interpretation I have, sorry if I got it wrongly.
For info the porter will only paid RM7 for each kg & if they carry stuff for the restaurant they will only be paid RM3.50 for each kg. Hard work right!

The journey to Laban Rata begins at 8.30am.
By the way, we met our AUHAC senior Abg Rain and his wife at the starting point.
The Mersilau trail is actually 3 hours longer than the Timpohon trail. It was worth it since the view is superb.
Sorry dabom... I could not follow your pace and left you with the guide that you hate because he was pushing you as well... He is cute so bear with him.. kay... and Tan is around as well right..!

The trails is well facilitate with rest hut & toilet & water point at each rest area. The journey took about 7 hours to Laban Rata. It was raining from the junction of Timpohon & Mersilau trail at Layang2 up to Laban Rata. Have to use the raincoat since it was getting cold.

Had our RM15 fried rice, tapau half of it for dinner & hot drinks at the cafe in Laban Rata Hut before move to our Gunting Lagadan Hut for the night.

It was cold but bearable before we woke up at 1.30am for climb to the summit. 2.30 am, John asked us to follow him for the peak trail. After Sayat2, again.. I could not follow your pace anymore so I move ahead.. Sorry dabom.. eks..... no heart feeling kay.. dear sis... John was motivating you right..!
Reach Low Peak about 5.30am. Was looking for the stone area that they(LUPAT previous trip members) said but could not identify the area.. until I reach the peak. Good weather as well just windy a bit. 6.30 am we started to hike down to Laban Rata already. Took some photos along the way before reach Gunting at 7.30am.

9.30a.m start trekking down to Timpohon from Laban Rata. Reach Timpohon gate at 11.30am. The pitcher plant along the trails should not be missed.

We did it !!!!!!!!!!!! PEAK SUCCESS View Chantek !!!
Wanna repeat ???? Mersilau again.. Probably ... boring le ikut timpohon........tangga tak leh blah..!

Wa... Pegi berdua je ke??? Bravo... cayalah... Tue 29-Jul-2008 01:30

Kinabalu Trip 19~26 July 2008 - Sandakan Area

Flight
To the caves
Guano ?
View all 27 photos...
21 ~22 July in Sandakan

Travel by MAS this time from Kota Kinabalu. Using the brand new airport in KK as well. Wow... another KLIA...

Area visited:

Gumantong Caves - Nice caves but the guano smell is unforgettable.... fortunately that I decided to wear shoes before entering the caves... the nest collection only started in August so we just manage to see some of the ladder inside the caves only.

Batu Tuloq - This is actual ancient buritial area for the local where they put in the dead animal inside the wood carven coffin. We have to climb the step ladder to enter the caves. Saw some puppies on the way up. Can you count how many of them? It should be 8 puppies all together.

Labuk Bay, Proboscis Monkey
- The place to see the long big pointed monkey. Quite a rare species, since this monkey only can be seen in Borneo. The one with big pointed nose & looked like wearing an underwear at the back is a male and the one with smaller nose is the female. We missed the feeding time since it took quite a while to reach the area. About 16km of gravel road from the main road. However thanks to the nice sanctuary staff, they feed the remaining monkey so that we can see them nearer and this is the only time that I regretted that I don't have D60 with me. The monkey can only be feed with non sugar contains homemade cake. I thought they will be giving fruits, but the staff told us that the monkey can't eat any sweet things. It will make them sick. Have to rent the 4WD to visit this area. New road is in progress.

Sandakan Town Area -

Buli Sim Sim is the water village in Sandakan.
Lunch at the area only cost us RM17 for three people with 3 ikan bakar as well. We eat Baulu & Blais type of fish and it was really fresh...!
Agnes Keith's House is actually some old building in the town..
We manage to find Buah Terap at last.

Sepilok Orang Hutan Rehabilitation Center - Hmm.. We missed the bus to Sepilok (No14) so have to take another bus (No16) which only stops at the junction to the center. It was about 3km to the center. We walked fro a while before I decided to hike the passing lorry. Feeding time 10.00 is. Mimi the orang hutan was really angry when dabom tried to touch her. Morale : Do not try to touch the wild orang hutan. Only 6 orang hutan came out during the feeding time.

Steamboat Dinner - RM21 per person. Tasty fresh seafood Yummy...

Thanks to our Sandakan's Friends Mijol & Malik for the hospitality.

thx for uploading lovely pictures for us to see
teringat dulu kat KK pun ada makan buat terap tu....buah salak makan tak?
bestnya tgk gegambo....

[First Day 19 & 20 July

Depart from LCCT evening flight.
Arrived in KK about 8.00pm.
Taxi from airport to KK town cost RM20.
Night: Travelers Lights near Australian Place RM25 for dormitory.

The next day we went to Manukan Island for snorkeling. Not much coral but manage to swim with some colorful fish under the jetty.
The jetty was also brand new !
Check the entire counter before you bought the boat ticket & compare the prices. Rent the mask for snorkeling at the jetty itself coz it is cheaper at the jetty compared to the island. The park fee has risen from RM3 to RM6.

pergi kk tak ajak pun...sedihnyer...huhuhuhu Thu 7-Aug-2008 17:17

Visit to ARA LIBERTAD

Entrance at Navy Base Klang

Open day at a navy ship... wanna go..? My cousins Ain & Miyul (Cah was left behind since she was having a camping trip that weekend) were very excited about it and we decided to have a peak on saturday instead of sunday. It was a very wise decission as well since I heard that it was raining heavily on sunday. But still cloudy on the day.

ARA LIBERTAD is actual an Argentina Naval Ship. It just a big ship which use both engine and the big sail when they are sailing. Most of the officers are young officer where only a few numbers of them do speak in English... have some diffculty when they are trying to explain to us about some of the equipment onboard but there are very friendly.

I was actually hopping for a big warship with some jet fighter inside it... gosh... what an expectation..!.. We also manage to sneak around Terminal Cruise as well and saw those STAR Cruise Ferry.. a big one.. and I put it as one of my next thing to do... -> Holiday using STAR cruise... to Singapore perhaps...

Enjoys those photos onboard of Ara Libertad
